Falling Into A New Season

I’m officially excited for Fall!  I said it… quite the jump considering last post I was still trying to accept that summer is quickly coming to an end.  When my girlfriend and I went shopping the other day, I couldn’t help but feel a change in heart.  New arrivals in stores are so fresh;  Rich colours, unique pieces of geometric design and layers- I’m ready for a new season!

1. J Brand Nicola Leather Skinny – Noir | 2. ALEXANDER WANG Cropped Chunky Cotton Knit | 3. Modcloth Bohemian Headband | 4. Zara Mini Skort | 5. FRYE Campus Satchel | 6. Wetseal Braided Band Floppy Hat | 7. H&M Boyfriend Jeans | 8. Mango Faux-Fur and Knit Scarf | 9. 3.1 Phillip Lim Motorcycle Wool and Leather Peplum Jacket (Cinnamon) | 10. ALDO Jons Boots

New trends will continue to surface for Fall and will rapidly change until Winter arrives.  With that said, essentials are needed to get through the transition of seasons, while staying on trend.

Many of the pieces I chose are classics with a subtle twist.  This season there are some edgy details that I’m excited to try.

1.  Skinny Leather Pants.  Classic and versatile.  For some edge, rock a pair with motocross detail.

2. Cropped knit sweaters are going to be big this season.  Cozy and structured.  Welcome back 1990’s.

3. Bohemian Headbands.  I’m obsessed with headbands period, however, these ones I specifically adore because they are so cozy and can really pull an outfit together;  Add some character to your outfit!

4.  Geometric designs are going to be huge this season and I love it!  Original and edgy, they look fantastic matched with plain sweaters and a pair of booties.

5.  A structured satchel inspired by school bags, leather is always in.

6.  Floppy hats!  Maybe it was the Deighton Cup that sparked my new love for hats, so it only seems fitting to have one ready for Fall too…

7.  Boyfriend Jeans.  Dress them up or down, mine are definitely a staple for all seasons.

8. Scarves are an essential, but perhaps take a break from your everyday knitted infinity scarf (as much as I still adore them).

9.  Fall coats are going to be seeing a lot of wool and leather detail this season, the pair look beautiful together.

10.  Booties.  This pair from Aldo is a unique design, kind of oxford meets subtle biker.  They’ll look great with leather pants and a cozy knit sweater.

Which trend are you looking forward to most?

Mixing Metals

When I style outfits I am immediately drawn to gold accessories, especially with the sun-kissed skin that Mother Nature has been so kind to dress me in, they glow together. However, lately I found I’ve developed a wandering eye for silver jewelry, which can cause a fashionable dilemma! Well, I’m done with rules, so instead of following the concept of “matching metals,” lets play with them instead! Gold glows and silver accents sparkle in the sunshine, pairing them together look beautiful!

I especially love mixing metals with a black palette, like my Oak + Fort Analis Tunic- my first ever t-shirt dress that actually fits me perfectly in all the right places!

Boyfriend jeans and a casual top is also another great outfit to experiment with mixing metals, both match the easy-going feel.

Here are a few tips to Mix Metals:

* Great transitional pieces are pearls and diamonds because they are classics and act as a neutral.
* Subtlety is key, smaller details are better to add, rather than too many bold silver and gold pieces (like in the picture I added one small silver knuckle ring on one hand with a gold ring and bracelet.
* Try not to think about it too much! “Effortless” should be just that, simple accents.

Current Obsession- Social Experiment

I am fortunate to live in the amazing city of Vancouver. The electrifying feel of Downtown with inspiration around every corner and endless invitations by Mother Nature to explore the breathtaking scenery she has to offer- from mountains to oceans, she has it all.  It was love at first sight when I set my eyes on Social Experiment, “One of a kind cocktail rings inspired by the West Coast.” Gorgeous is an understatement when describing these accessories by local designer, Georgia Heraty.

When placing my first order of Social Experiment on Etsy, self control had to be practiced to prevent myself from ordering every single one- so to start my collection off I only ordered two, the Blue Quartz and Red Garnet Cocktail Rings.  When receiving my rings, I was beyond ecstatic!  They fit beautifully and the quality of these hand crafted designs are impeccable.

Social Experiment offers an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of Vancouver with these one of a kind rings that compliment any outfit with their versatility.
